13 Things Married Couples Really Do When the Other Half’s Away

Being married is both fulfilling and exhausting at the same time. In marriage, you integrate your life with another person’s life. You will always be together, make decisions together, and resolve problems together. While it may be a dream come true, there are also moments when you miss your alone time.

Here are guilty pleasures married people do when their significant others (SO) are away.

1. Sleeping Diagonally

When you’re married, you’re only expected to sleep together in one bed. If you’re used to sleeping alone, this can require a bit of getting used to. It’s not that you don’t want to sleep with your partner on the bed. But you treasure those times when you get the bed and hog the covers all to yourself.

2. Comfortably Lying on the Sofa and Binge-Watching Shows

Taking care of the household can be tiring, from preparing food to ensuring the kids are ready for school. After everything’s said and done, having the time to relax, lie on the sofa, wrap yourself in the softest heated blanket, and watch Netflix is the dream. It may not be much, but it energizes you

3. Enjoying the Quiet

A home with a partner who constantly has the TV even when not watching means you barely have any peace and quiet. The silence, however irrelevant as it may seem, is a luxury when your significant other is not home. This is the perfect time to enjoy a nap or a good book.

4. Steak and a Good Cabernet

Some situations can keep you away from a good glass of Cabernet, like a significant other recovering. You must be supportive and avoid it to help her get through it. It’s also why a good glass paired with an excellently grilled steak is your best reward when your significant other is away.

5. Hiking

If you love hiking but your partner doesn’t enjoy it, you don’t have to completely stop your hobby. You just have to schedule it when your partner is out of town, whether to visit family or work.

Get your backpack packed with high-energy snacks and a windproof jack. Make sure, though, that your partner knows you’re going out to avoid misunderstandings.

6. Lazing Around

When you’re married, it means that you get half of the responsibility for running your household. If your partner is always working on something like cleaning and doing the dishes, it’s embarrassing to be seen not doing anything.

Alone, you can be as lazy as you want to, with all the dishes and laundry unwashed. Just make sure to clean up everything before your significant other comes home.

7. Eating Meals SO Does Not Like

There are some meals you won’t eat when you’re with your significant other, whether it’s because of the smell or the meal’s appearance. What if you really like that food, though? It’s one of the guilty pleasures you can enjoy when your partner is away. It’s these little things, but they can be refreshing to try again.

8. Sleeping in Unusual Hours

Taking a nap is not a sin but if you plan to sleep like how sloths do it, you might need to wait for your partner to go out before you do it. While you won’t be judged for yourself, your significant other will still worry if you feel unwell.

9. Parking in the Middle of the Garage

Parking in the middle of your home’s garage is a guilty pleasure for a married person. You don’t have to be careful when parking your car at home. You just breeze in easily without sweat, unlike when your partner’s car is parked or you need to make space for the other car.

10. Uninterrupted Video Gaming

If you love video gaming, you will enjoy uninterrupted binge gaming. No one will judge you if you’re sitting down the entire day playing “Call of Duty” or even if you’re playfully trash-talking with your friends over your headphones.

11. Deep Cleaning and Reorganizing

One of the best things to do when everyone’s not home is to clean. While it may not be the most fun, it’s definitely a good opportunity to accomplish. No one will hinder you from moving around and keep dirtying the floor as you clean up. And at the end of the day, everything will be cleaned and organized.

12. Watching Shows and Movies SO Will Never Watch

Do you ever have a specific movie or show you want to watch but never get to? Whether it’s an anime show you’ve been planning to binge or a new scary movie that just came out, you can watch anything you want without someone saying, “Isn’t there something we both want to watch?”

13. Drawing or Singing

Do you have a hidden hobby you’re just not yet ready to reveal to your spouse? When your partner is away, it’s the perfect time to unleash your passion with no one watching. Do you like drawing naked paintings or singing? Go and have a good time exploring your passion.
