However, please remember that landing on the rock formation is prohibited. Circling the rocks and snorkeling in nearby waters would be enough to keep you busy for the whole day. 

When visiting Kicker Rock, there’s a probability of seeing hammerhead sharks. Most people say you see more by diving, but that’s not always true. When we visited, I went snorkeling, and my friend went diving. I saw a school of over 10 hammerhead sharks while snorkeling, while my friend who went diving didn’t see any. 

2. Española Island Tour

Española Island is a place you shouldn’t miss if you love birds. 

On the island, you can spot adult and baby albatrosses quite close to each other, as if the parent is protecting the child. Another cute bird to find there is a Nasca booby. 

There are many more flying avians near the island, so bring your camera to capture the moment. We would advise you to hire a tour guide or join a day tour for this place as they are more knowledgeable about the sighting spots.

5. Playa Punta Carola

Punta Carola is arguably the best beach in San Cristobal. The main highlight of this place is its sunset views, so it is heaven for photographers. Bring your camera and start taking shots of the sun trying to hide in the sea with sea lions stretching themselves on the shore.

Mother sea lions sometimes leave their babies to find fish. The babies remain at the shore waiting for their mums, giving tourists a chance to see them up close. There is nothing cuter than these seeing little sea lions ambling about and waiting for food. 

Just make sure that you don’t touch them. Touching them can cause them to lose their odor, and their mother would not be able to recognize them. As they can’t find their own food yet, that would mean they would likely not make it.

La Loberia is the beach for those who love Ecuadorian iguanas. 

The beach is on the other side of the San Cristobal airport, only a 5-minute drive away. However, you can also choose to walk towards the beach while enjoying the beautiful atmosphere of San Cristobal. It would take around 40 minutes to reach by foot. 

Once you reach the beach, stay there for a few hours. Watch iguanas on rocks or snorkel with the sea lions. If you want a more challenging hike, walk past the beach towards the cliffs. You can get some mesmerizing views of the coast from there. 

7. Punta Pit

Want to see the beautiful red-footed boobies up close? Head to Punta Pit and watch to spot one of the world’s rarest birds. The day tour of this place is not very popular, so you won’t find a lot of crowds here.

15. Deep Dish Pizza at Giuseppe’s

Giuseppe’s is located in the town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Head towards the waterfront boulevard end and look for this hotel behind the blue boat that serves as a souvenir shop. In this restaurant, you can get all types of dishes. From Italian-style pizza to local Ecuadorian cuisine, you can try almost anything. However, we highly recommend their deep-dish pizza. 

Another good reason to visit here is the owner. He is a humble man who also teaches English on the island, aside from making delicious dishes. The atmosphere makes the whole mood pop.

16. El Puerto Creperie desserts

El Puerto Creperie is located on the street, just after Calypso. The restaurant offers plenty of items, such as coffee, crepes, and some of the most delicious desserts in Ecuador. The atmosphere here is peaceful and quiet. 

Visit this restaurant only if you want to try some desserts and snacks. The place does not offer full meals. We recommend you come here for a short time after dinner in one of the restaurants mentioned above.

How To Get to San Cristobal Galapagos

There are two options to get to San Cristobal. 

• By Air

Traveling by air is the most convenient option. Thanks to the local airport on the island that receives flights from both Guayaquil and Quito. 

Once you reach the San Cristobal airport, take a taxi between $5 and $10 to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Keep in mind that the taxis from the airport are white Toyota vans instead of yellow taxis. 

Flight costs vary depending on the time of the year. The price usually ranges between $400 to $600, which may be lower when you book in advance. 

• By Ferry

Ferries usually move between Isabela, San Cristobal, and Santa Cruz islands. The trip from Santa Cruz is two hours and 30 minutes, costing around $30. 

Buying a ferry ticket is pretty simple; head to the port and get one. Keep in mind that ferries leave twice a day. First at 7:00 a.m. and second at 2:00 p.m. If you are traveling from Isabela, your first stop will be Santa Cruz, as there is no direct route between the two islands.
